In my opinion the American Dream is the idea that a person can, within reason, do whatever their heart desires. It is the freedom to live your life however you see fit, no matter what your social or economic status is. It is the belief that you can come from nothing and become somebody important or powerful. Athletes in today’s major sports, musicians, and movie/TV stars are all perfect examples. They are idolized for making something of themselves, for achieving the "American Dream". It is the belief that everyone has an equal opportunity to better themselves, to reach success. I don’t think the American Dream is about possessions, like having a house with a white picket fence and a car parked in the garage, but I do think success is a big part of it. I think that if you are a successful at whatever it is you are striving for in life, whether it’s wealth, possessions, social status, or even just happiness, then you have achieved the American Dream.
